The Region
Chalet Murmeli lies at the heart of the Goms valley, one of the most authentic valleys in Valais – surrounded by mountains, larch forests and centuries-old timber houses.
Summer & Winter Activities
Hiking in summer, cross-country skiing in winter – the Goms valley offers year-round ways to experience the Alps actively. Learn more on our Summer Activities and Winter Activities pages.
Historic Villages
Ernen and Mühlebach are among the best-preserved historic villages in Valais, shaped by centuries-old timber houses and narrow, authentic lanes. Ernen is listed in the Swiss Federal Inventory of Heritage Sites (ISOS) as a site of national importance, and Mühlebach is considered one of the best-preserved timber-built villages in the Alps – some houses date back to the 14th century. A walk through the narrow lanes passes historic sundials, the Zendenrathaus and Ernen's historic parish church.
Goms Bridge
At 280 metres, the Goms Bridge is one of the longest suspension footbridges in Valais. Inaugurated in 2015, it spans a deep gorge, linking the villages of Fürgangen and Mühlebach. The walkway brushes the tops of century-old trees and passes a giddy 92 m above the river Rhône. Good news for walkers: the bridge is open year-round.
Mineral Hunting in the Binn Valley
The Binn Valley is one of Europe's most significant mineral-collecting areas, delighting collectors and nature enthusiasts from around the world. Around Mühlebach and Binn, more than 300 different minerals have been discovered – including numerous rare and unique finds. New mineral species are still being discovered today in the Lengenbach mine. Whether on a guided excursion, a visit to the mineral museum, or a hike through the impressive mountain landscape: this is where the fascinating world of crystals and rocks can be experienced up close.
